Dad and Aunt Nancy

I made an emergency trip back to Columbia, South Carolina as my grandmother was passing away. I arrived in SC at 4 on Friday, March 20 and went straight to Oma's apartment. We were able to spend time with her. She was not able to communicate and only opened her eyes for a brief second, but I knew she knew we were there. She ended up passing away at 3:15 am that next morning. I left on Monday and the funeral was Tuesday, but I am glad I was there before she passed. We helped clean out her apartment, type an obituary and even got her cat out of the apartment. So many things to talk about, but it was great seeing family and finding out more about my grandparents than I ever thought I knew. Such passionate wonderful people. I have the privilege of scanning in all the letters and pictures she saved. She saved every letter, card, article. Everything! Letters from my grandfather to her before they were married and from WW2 and Korea. Such a great love story. A huge task, but one that is worth it!

Micheal in the NBA in 2017

Micheal just finished his basketball season. He did really great and is a really good three point shooter. He and Justin practice downstairs in the basement with laundry baskets. It's not as if we do not have a basketball hoop, it is just covered with snow.

Some metal for breakfast?

Jordan took first place for the third grade for her science fair project. She took breakfast cereal and blended it with water and then used a magnet and took out all the iron in the cereal and compared all the cereals to see which cereal had the most iron. Which cereal was it? Cookie Crisp.

Jordan's accident

Jordan's finger after a month.

As many of you know, on February 3rd, Jordan had a bad accident. Her grandfather was picking up all the kids from school. Ron is handicapped and is in a wheelchair so he drives a big van with automatic closing doors. Justin got into the back of the van and pushed the button to close the automatic doors. At the same time, Jordan was climbing into the front seat and had her hand just on the inside of the automatic doors.
The door closed on her left ring finger and almost severed the top of her finger. Ron rushed her home where Jerime immediately took her to the Emergency room in Nephi. I met him there right as they arrived. They hooked her up with an IV and gave her morphine while they took x-rays. She had definitely crushed her bone both horizontally and vertically. The ER doctor instructed us to take her immediately to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City which is about a 2 hour drive from our house. Primary Children's is a hospital in renowned in the west for its children's services. The ER had already called ahead to the ER at PCH and let them know she was on the way.
Once we arrived, they called in a plastic surgeon to work on Jordan's finger. She had crushed her bone in the top of her finger and had severed her tendon and main artery in her finger. Dr. Spann gave her 12 stitches and splinted her finger. Since her bone was in so many pieces, there was no way to try and stabilize her bone to make sure it healed right. We would just have to wait and and see.
I am happy to report that after 6 weeks, her tendon has reattached, her bones appear to be healing perfectly and she is doing wonderfully. She goes to physical therapy twice a week to make sure she gains full use of her finger back.

Snow fun with the Mikkelsens

We always have our annual Christmas party with Ron's sister and her children and grandchildren. We took them sledding in Fountain Green. I hope to make this an annual tradition. Not too many wipe outs.
